To be eligible to be an investor on Upstart's peer to peer lending platform, you must:

For individuals this means that (i) your individual net worth, or joint net worth with your spouse, exceeds USD 1 million, excluding the value of your primary residence, or (ii) your income exceeds USD 200,000 in each of the two most recent years, or joint income with your spouse exceeds USD 300,000 in each of those years, and you have a reasonable expectation of the same income level in the current year.

2) Be a “U.S. person” for US tax purposes

3) Have a U.S. bank account.

Non-US citizens can invest on Upstart’s platform under the following criteria (in addition to the above accreditation criteria):

4) Investor can provide a W-9 (i.e., "I certify under penalty of perjury that (i) the social security number I provided is correct, (ii) I am a 'United States person' for U.S. federal income tax purposes, (iii) I am not subject to backup withholding due to failure to report interest and dividend income, and (iv) I am exempt from FATCA (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act) reporting").
